Ligand Development
The development of new ligands and pro-ligands forms the core business strategy for Creative Chemistry. A metal or metalloid coordinated by a robust set of ligands will have relatively high thermodynamic stability with respect to a variety of external conditions, including heat, light, and acid. In addition, ligands can be designed that possess one or more desirable properties, including anti-microbial properties, an ability to facilitate electronic coupling, fluorescence (or phosphorescence) and others, sometimes synergistically enhanced by the metal to which the ligand is bound. Surprisingly, a thorough examination of the chemical literature and commercially available chemicals indicates that this area of chemistry has considerable room for growth. Creative Chemistry will design innovative ligands ideally possessing multiple properties (including an ability to form highly stable metal or metalloid complexes), which will be useful in the synthesis of more effective catalysts, drugs, and other materials.
